Meeting about Advanced English Lessons Spring 2014

Meeting About Advanced English Courses on Thursday 13th February, Room 250

All students who are interested in attending a B2 level (i.e. FCE level) General English Course, BYA23 , should come to a meeting on Thursday 13th February in Room 250 at 16:00.

All students interested in attending a C1 level (i.e. CAE level – but no code exists so it will be called BYA23 like the lower course) General English Course should come to a meeting on Thursday 13th February in Room 250 at 16:20.

At the meetings we will decide on times for the classes, and whether both will open, or only one. At least 10 students must be able to attend at the same time for the class to run. The class/classes needn’t take place at the times now on the timetable – we can decide on a time that suits the most people…

About the classes

Both classes are General English courses, not exam courses. The focus in class will mainly be on speaking on various themes; listening will also be practiced and advanced level grammar covered. Homework will be set, and some of it will take the form of exam practice, vocabulary and reading tasks, but it will be completely optional.

Both classes will be dealing with the third and final parts of books which were started in February 2013. However, if you didn’t attend the last semesters, it doesn’t matter; it is expected that due to the difficulty of assembling a viable group of people from various faculties and specialisations most people will be new this time. The main point of the courses is to give advanced students the chance to practice and develop their English; the book is just a tool to help with that.

FAST students must have the BY51 exam (and an unused free semester too) to attend the course for free; there will be a special BY51 exam session at the beginning of the semester for students who need to get the exam so they can study higher level English classes.

Other people from outside FAST are also welcome to attend, though they will need to pay for the course. For information on payment please check this address:

If you are coming/can’t come to the meeting…

Please e-mail Roger Turland at if you will be coming to the meeting.

If you can’t come to the meeting but would like to attend one of the courses, also e-mail Mr Turland, letting him know the course you want and the hours when you are free so we can take them into account when deciding if and when the courses will open.
