Courses for self-financing students
If you are an international exchange student planning to study at Brno University of Technology (BUT), you can enrol on our language courses for self-financing students.
- The Department of Languages at the Institute of Social Sciences at BUT's Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE) offers a range of foreign language courses for self-financing students from other BUT faculties, universities, companies and the general public.
- The courses are each taught once a week (100 minutes per lesson) for a period of one semester.
- Modern textbooks are used and the greatest emphasis is placed on verbal communication.
- The classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard and tuition involves the intensive and versatile use of audiovisual equipment.
- The tuition fee includes the right to use online support materials available via Moodle. These materials include comprehensive grammar presentations and many activities enabling students to study, practice and test their knowledge outside class.
The price of a standard semester-long course of one 100-minute lesson per week for students is 2080 CZK incl. VAT (approx. EUR 80).

Advanced Level English lessons
All students who are upper intermediate level or higher and like speaking English are very welcome!
- At least 10 students must be able to attend at any one time for the courses to run.
- We meet once a week for a 100 minute period. Plenty of homework is given for extra, optional practice.
- The courses are optional subjects.
- The course fee is 2080 CZK (approx. EUR 80).

Credit requirements
The courses are optional - a certificate of attendance is provided at the end of the course.
In order to obtain the certificate of attendance, students must participate in the lessons actively and have no more than 3 absences during the semester.
Registration
Registration is possible until the end of the 3rd week of the semester.
Students from the FCE may register on the FCE intranet themselves. Students who wish to add the course to their Learning Agreement should visit or email Mrs. Anna Pospíšilová pospisilova.a(at)fce.vutbr.cz from the FCE's international office to enrol in the subject as soon as possible.
Other students from outside the FCE are also welcome to attend, though in many cases they will need to pay for the course.
